This post is about the tragic tale of the F-35 plane that has failed spectacularly and cost insane amount of time and money. I was quite bitter when Denmark bought a huge number of F-35 in 2016 but the start of the story goes all the way back to 1997 where Denmark entered a project with USA to build a fifth Generation Fighter plane.

Sadly the development from paper to plane took incredible long time and I still dunno why Denmark took part in a prestige project like this with no experience of airplane building our selves which ofc meant our help and contribution was with money and good pilots, not with airplane engineers or aviation experience but Denmark supported this project from 1997 and onwards til today and back in 2016 we bought 27 F-35 even if it still had massive issues, one of them for instance was it had a cat personality meaning it didn’t like water which was absurd to think about, creating a plane that had abit of rain as a kryptonite.

Even worse the mistakes piled up and most fixes sadly meant the ability of the plane went down the drain because they had to remove some ability of the plain in order to “fix” it so it could fly which meant every fix made the F-35 prestige project worse.

Despite these issues Denmark still went ahead and bought 27 of them which was insane when you consider how horrible the project was going. Many other countries bought less at first only to buy alot in2024. But the many “fixes” has downgraded the plane and a Swedish expert has lately said publicly that the F-35 has to few missiles to be an air to air fighter and that it is more suited for ground attack and bombing. This is a huge blow to the reputation of the F-35 cause instead of being a flexible and super modern Generation 5 airplane it is instead Outclassed in air to air combat and thus is a very expensive air to ground attack.

Denmark has done alot to try and help this project but Lockheed Martin must be embarrassed with the horrible process which has downgraded the F-35 so much that other specialised fighters are better in air to air according to a swedish expert.

Ofc the plane has some qualities which ate still super modern but a Swiss-knife kinda Airplane it will never be, it is not good with a multirole purpose but still is a good air to ground airplane. Perhaps its fair to mention that the sweeds has their own fighter airplane called Gripen and perhaps their critique is based on comparison to that fighter plane but none the less the F-35 has been in the drawings since 1997 and even today it has issues but no matter how horrible this process has been then I dont think there will be any investigations on why we bought so many in 2016 when it wasent finished and we probably knew this when we invested heavily compared to other countries and even if they have caught up with Denmark in purchasing then its a bad plane considering the time and money spent on it and the result we see today.

The F-35 we will see fly today and in the future will imo be at risk of finding more buggs but for now UK has bought a huge fleet of a F-35b version and I suspect it is for air to ground like we hear in media that Israel has used the F-35 for in bombings in Gaza and other places.

For me the F-35 was like a bird that newer flew, at least not as intended and the future will tell if more errors will have to be fixed,I suspect so, why we as a small country with no experience in producing airplanes was so heavily involved in the making with Lockheed Martin I dunno, waste of time and money but I hope its a lessen to the politicians that we dont bring that much to the table, perhaps money and some good pilots but no engineers and creative people which this project lacked badly.

In my view this prestige project never came into being as it was first envisioned and even with alot of money and time put into it ,it still hasn’t the reputation like the F-16 which is still highly thought of by the pilots today.
