So we have the first news about the meeting in Abu Dhabi, first off I wanna make a note that the leaks are primarily comming from the western scources since Russia has a tradition to keep very silent about negotiations like these, so most of the rumours are comming from the west and I don’t believe in all of them. The first day friday USA mediated between Russia and Ukraine but saturday Russia and Ukraine held meeting together alone which is a very good sign, now the rumours where overly positive and suggested it is so close that Putin and Zelenskyy might meet in the very near future but I dont believe this rumour for the moment, however they will continiou the talks next weekend again in Abu Dhabi. The two biggest Issues I feel is the one that will cause problems is the talks about Ukraine ceasing some territory and then Ukraine wanting Security guarentee from USA, to this Russia will object and be very firm but Ukraine really wants the security guarentee from USA and they don’t care about EU security guarentess, they understand that USA are the real powerhouse here and that EU for the most part is irrelevant. So Zelenskyy won’t concede any territory and Putin won’t accept USA security guarentees to Ukraine, these are the two main problems and because of this I don’t believe the rumours that it is very positive and close to a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy, a meeting between those two will only happend if they are very close to agreeing to a deal, only then will they meet and put their signature on the papers and maybe even shake hands who knows but for now I don’t believe the overly positive rumours comming from the west who says it could be close. What I think is more likely is that Ukraine and Russia has agreed to some of the minor details first which are easier to agree upon and then left the harder details to the last and this is why people are overly positive in the media in the west today, I think the hard part still needs to be worked out and that it might not be as fast to get done since both Zelenskyy and Putin are firm on their demands, one of them has to give in and I am pretty sure atm that none of them are willing. That’s the news from the meeting, positive talks but still a long way to go and the meeting will resume next weekend in Abu Dhabi.
