Estonia has made it illegal for all non Estonia’s citizenship to vote at local elections, this is clearly targeted at the 80.000 Russians citizen but also the 60.000 people who does not have any citizenship at all because they lost it during the fall of the soviet block, these two groups together make up for 10% of Estonia’s total citizens and its a remarkable shift away from Democracy since they were allowed to vote in local elections, its also fuel’s Putin’s story about Russians being targeted and that support his attempt to liberate the 4 Donbass regions in order to protect the Russian people.

We should condemn this authoritarian move but I fear people will look the other way and shake the shoulders, but despite what goes on in the war then democracy should be maintained as much as possible even if Estonia feel they have a right to restrict their local elections even if it means making the Russian and non Estonia’s citizens into second grade people cause that is what they are doing, which polarizes people even more rather than maintaining the status quo with a sensibility for democracy.
